Fresno Businesses We Work With
Contractors and trades
General contractors, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, landscapers and specialty trades. We handle the CSLB license bond, the workers' comp certificate, and the liability limits your general contractor or customers ask for. Contractor insurance and CSLB rules →
Trucks, vans and service vehicles
From one work truck to a small fleet running Highway 99 and the valley's farm roads, commercial auto covers vehicles your personal policy won't. We also add hired and non-owned auto for employees who drive their own cars on the job.
Shops, restaurants and offices
Retail stores, food service, salons and professional offices usually fit a business owner's policy that combines liability and property. For buildings you own or major equipment, we look at commercial property coverage separately.
Home-based and solo businesses
A homeowners policy rarely covers business equipment, inventory or client visits. A small endorsement or an inexpensive in-home business policy usually closes the gap. Home-based business insurance →
Farm operations, crop coverage and some agricultural processing need specialist markets. If your business falls there, we'll tell you plainly and point you in the right direction.
The Building Blocks of a Fresno Business Policy
Covers bodily injury and property damage you cause to customers or the public — a slip in your shop, damage on a job site. It's the coverage landlords, general contractors and many clients require.
General liability and business property in one package, usually with business income coverage if a fire or covered loss shuts you down. Often the best value for small Fresno businesses.
Required in California as soon as you have one employee. Pricing depends on your payroll and job classifications, so getting the class codes right matters. Workers' comp for small businesses →
Proper coverage for vehicles used in the business, and an umbrella that adds liability above your auto, general liability and employer's liability limits.

What insurance does a small business in Fresno need?
Most Fresno small businesses start with general liability, which covers injuries and property damage you cause to others. Add commercial property if you own equipment, inventory or a building — often combined with liability in a business owner's policy (BOP). If you have employees, California requires workers' compensation. If vehicles are used for work, you need commercial auto. We'll review your operations and tell you which of these you actually need.
Is workers' compensation required in California if I only have one employee?
Yes. California Labor Code section 3700 requires every employer with even one employee, full- or part-time, to carry workers' compensation insurance. Operating without it can bring stop-work orders, substantial penalties and personal liability for an injured worker's costs.
What insurance and bonds does a California contractor need?
Every licensed contractor must file a $25,000 contractor license bond with the CSLB (the amount rose from $15,000 on January 1, 2023), plus a workers' compensation certificate or an exemption if you have no employees. Contractors licensed as an LLC must also carry liability insurance, and most general contractors and property owners require proof of general liability before you start work. We write the bond and the insurance together.
Do I need commercial auto insurance if I use my own truck for work?
Often, yes. Personal auto policies typically exclude or limit coverage when a vehicle is used mainly for business — hauling tools and materials, making deliveries, or carrying a business name. If employees drive their own cars on errands for you, hired and non-owned auto coverage protects the business. Tell us how each vehicle is used and we'll make sure it is covered correctly.
